NSC Honors Amazon Safety Leader with Marion Martin Award at 2024 Safety Congress & Expo

Jasmine Omar recognized for advancing safety and empowering women in the profession.

ORLANDO, Florida – The National Safety Council (NSC) has recognized Jasmine Omar, Amazon's global director of worldwide ergonomics and safety experience, as the recipient of the prestigious Marion Martin Award.

The accolade was presented during the opening session of the 2024 NSC Safety Congress & Expo, which is being held this week at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, from Sept. 16 to18.

Omar, who has made significant contributions to workplace safety and the advancement of women in the safety profession, was honored for her leadership and achievements at Amazon. Over the past six years, she has risen from an individual contributor to managing a team of more than 200 safety and health professionals. Under her leadership, Amazon has seen a 60 percent reduction in lost-time incidents and a 30 percent reduction in recordable incident rates since 2019.

Among her notable accomplishments, Omar implemented an information management system, launched a safety observation program that collected 200,000 observations in 2023, and established Amazon’s first safety learning and development team, increasing training effectiveness by 30 percent. Additionally, she has championed inclusivity in the workplace, with 75 percent of her direct reports being women. She has mentored over 30 women and supports 2,500 members as the executive sponsor of Amazon’s Women in EHS (WinEHS) affinity group.

“NSC is proud to celebrate women who are committed to safety and inclusion through its Marion Martin Award,” said Lorraine Martin, NSC president and CEO. “Jasmine has helped promote over 30 women during her time at Amazon, mentoring young women who aspire to enter the EHS field. It is with great pleasure we present her with this award.”

The Marion Martin Award, established in 2016, annually recognizes women who have paved the way for others in the safety profession.
